Two years ago today we buried my lovely Dad and not a day goes by when we don't miss him desperately. It makes me sad that he never met his great granddaughter Renee but I know he is waiting for me on the other side of the moon. X

#greatbritishquilter Instagram challenge -Best quilt ever. For me, this was not about the "best" quilt I ever made, the most challenging, or the most recognisable but the ones that meant the most to me. That's my Dad in this picture who sadly passed away 2 years ago after a brave battle with oesophageal cancer. In this picture he is attending a quilt show near his home. He had proudly declared that his daughter was "that quilter off the telly" and offered to lend them some o...f my quilts i had made him for their next local quilt show. Without telling me, he set this up and it greeted me as I entered the room in Wing Village Hall. In this picture he doesn't look it, but he is very ill and wearing a chemotherapy pump under that jacket. But just look how proud it made him. The quilt at the bottom was the first quilt I ever finished, and I gave it to him for Christmas once it was completed. He treasured it even though it was a simple pattern, and wasn't made perfectly. My first attempts at free motion quilting weren't brilliant but he loved it. In fact, he took both of these quilts to the hospice with him when he got really sick, because they both said home. And he requested that he would take one with him when he took his final sleep. So after he passed I collected them both from the hospice and brought them home. The flower one is in my sewing room, and the one at the bottom, the wobbly turned 9 patch with points not matching, went into his coffin to comfort him on his final journey. The undertaker asked me 3 times if I was really sure I wanted to leave it with him as it would soon be ash, but it was what my darling Daddy wanted. So that is my best quilt. It gave us both a great deal of comfort, and it will keep him company for eternity. Who could ask for more from a bundle of fabric and some thread. @sarahashfordstudio @quiltsfromtheattic #fortheloveofquilts See more
